WOOD & SODA FIRED POTS
I have been exploring the world of firing pottery with wood with two potter friends of mine. And in 2021 I worked with Justin Lambert to build me one of his hybrid soda and wood fired kilns. This is an adventure that, to me, leads right to the heart of what makes a successful pot. When a piece of pottery has been subjected to the ash and flames of a wood fire and atmospherically glazed with soda, it takes on characteristics that only that singular experience can bring to pottery. It is a collaboration of people, energy, clay and fire that makes for some remarkably beautiful work. Take a look: each of these pieces has a story to tell of its time in the fire.
